Fox will undergo surgery to repair the tendon in his right pinkie, an injury he suffered during training camp.
SAN ANTONIO — De’Aaron Fox, who joined the Spurs in a blockbuster midseason trade, will undergo surgery to repair extensor tendon damage in his left pinkie finger and will miss the rest of the season, the team announced.
Fox’s arrival with the team after a trade with the Sacramento Kings was seen as a key acquisition to support the emergence of center Victor Wembanyama and the young core of Spurs players.
Now both Spurs stars will be looking ahead to next season after Wembanyama was sidelined several weeks ago with deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder.
Fox suffered the injury during training camp before the season with Sacramento and had played with the injury all season. Shutting down now provides more time for healing before the new season begins in October.
The team said the surgery will be performed Tuesday in Los Angeles. Fox is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of next season.
