Spurs reportedly ‘signaling’ the team will select Dylan Harper at No. 2, not pursuing trades

“Dylan Harper is going to be the No. 2 pick, I am 99.9% sure about it,” reported ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs own the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and many believe the team will select Rutgers guard Dylan Harper.

And according to a report from ESPN, the Spurs may do that.

With the 2025 NBA Combine underway, a report surfaced that San Antonio is “signaling” to teams that Harper is their target at No. 2.

“Dylan Harper is going to be the No. 2 pick, I am 99.9% sure about it,” reported ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. “He has measurements comparable to those of Dwayne Wade coming out of college. The San Antonio Spurs are signaling to teams that they are very excited about the opportunity to draft Dyan Harper. They are not pursuing trades from what we’re hearing.”

Said Givony: “They think that they can play Dylan Harper together with Steph (Stephon) Castle and De’Aaron Fox in the same backcourt.”

Remember that the draft process is still in its infancy, and things can change, such as the team opting to trade the pick, but if this holds steady, Harper appears to be wearing a Silver and Black jersey next season.

The consensus No. 2 prospect in this draft averaged 19.4 points, 4.0 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game in his lone season at Rutgers. He has compared himself to players such as Cade Cunningham and James Harden, and his style of play will blend well with Victor Wembanyama.

Should the Spurs select him, it will make for a crowded backcourt, but in the NBA era of position-less basketball, having another guard of Harper’s ilk would be a problem San Antonio would love to have.
