The Spurs will be in the community this holiday season, making an impact.
SAN ANTONIO — With the holiday season here, the San Antonio Spurs announced local community-centered initiatives and player engagements as part of the annual “NBA Season of Giving,” a five-week celebration running from mid-November through December when NBA teams give back by supporting and uplifting youth, families, and organizations in their communities.
According to the team, Spurs players and Spurs Sports and Entertainment staff will serve Thanksgiving dinner to families, give out holiday gifts to kids, provide families with decorated Christmas trees, and much more.
Joining the Spurs are the Elf Louise Christmas Project, Goodwill, H-E-B, JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa, Methodist Healthcare and Methodist Healthcare Ministries, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, and San Antonio Food Bank.
“The holidays can be a difficult time for many families, especially this year as some face added challenges,” said Patricia Mejia, Chief Impact and Inclusion Officer at SS&E, in a release. “Season of Giving is about meeting our community where they are, extending a hand, sharing joy, and helping ensure every family feels supported and seen.”
Last season, the team made a significant impact, reaching more than 10 San Antonio zip codes and donating more than 5,000 turkeys, toys, and other household necessities.
SPURS, FROST HOST “REALITY FAIR”
The Spurs and Frost Bank held their annual “Reality Fair,” which aimed to spread financial education programming to local high school juniors and seniors. Students had the opportunity to spend a day in the life of either a Frost banker or a Spurs employee, learning valuable skills in budgeting expenses such as mortgages and utilities.
Spurs’ Jordan McLaughlin participated and spoke about his approach to finances, goals, and future planning. He also snapped photos and shot hoops with the students.
