Spurs show support for flood-hit Texas Hill Country community with surprise visit

The San Antonio Spurs uplift the Ingram, TX community with a special visit.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs made a surprise visit to Ingram, TX, as a show of support for the community as residents recover from the devastating floods.

The Spurs held a private practice in their Icon Edition jerseys in front of the students from Ingram and Hunt Independent School Districts.

Joining the players were the Spurs Hype Squad and the team mascot, The Coyote, as the students roared with excitement, seeing their basketball heroes take the court, while chanting “Go Spurs Go.”

The players went through drills, showcased dunks, and integrated with fans, signing autographs and giving the community a moment of relief from the devastating floods.

“We have been here since July 4, and we will continue to be here,” said Coach Mitch Johnson to the crowd.”You guys continue to build, come together, and show the strength and admiration that you guys have as a community.”

And one fan got a once-in-a-lifetime experience going against Victor Wembanyama on the court, but to no surprise, he did not get the best of the All-Star Center.

This is not the first time the Spurs have visited the Texas Hill Country following the floods.

In August, nearly 100 Spurs employees, including RC Buford, Brian Wright, and Head Coach Johnson, traveled to Ingram to volunteer at Mercy Chefs’ flood relief site, helping the Texas Hill Country continue its recovery efforts in the aftermath of the flooding.

Additionally, RC, Brian, and Mitch visited with affected residents and first responders in the Kerr County area to listen to their stories, share their support, and distribute gift cards for food and other essential needs.
