Sochan will likely play for the Polish National Team this summer.
SAN ANTONIO — When the San Antonio Spurs 2023-24 season is over, basketball will likely continue for forward Jeremy Sochan.
According to the Polish site PZKosz, Sochan and Team Poland are nearing an agreement for Sochan to play for his home country this summer at the Olympic qualifying tournament.
“In Jeremy’s case, it’s very simple. Although no final declaration has been made, because it is not that time yet, we believe that we are very close to reaching an agreement. Jeremy wants to play for the national team, for Poland, and he really wants to fight for the Olympic Games,” said Lukasz Koszarek, Director of the Polish National Team.
According to the report, Sochan’s health will be the determining factor.
Also, the Spurs are weighing in on whether or not Sochan will play for Team Poland, but everything seems to be falling into place.
“We met with several people from the San Antonio Spurs management regarding Sochan and I can say today that we are positive. We have expressed our willingness to cooperate with Spurs in every aspect so that Jeremy can join the squad in the summer. Of course, there are some conditions that I don’t want to talk about yet. I can reveal that the most important thing will be Jeremy’s health. This is the key that will help us,” said Koszarek.
Overall, all parties will likely agree to see Sochan play this summer.
Historically, San Antonio has accommodated foreign players to play for their countries at international games during the offseason.
Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker usually played for their respective home countries during the offseason at international tournaments, and the Spurs encouraged it.
Should Sochan represent Poland, he won’t be the only Spur playing this summer.
Victor Wembanyama will play for Team France at the summer Olympic games in France.
