SAN ANTONIO — The NBA has announced that Spurs rookie guard Stephon Castle has been named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for January.
That makes him just the second Spurs player in the last 20 years to receive the honor, joining reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama.
Castle played in 12 games in January and averaged a rookie-best 14.9 points, 3.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 27 minutes per game. He reached double-digit points in nine games, including a career-high 26 points on Jan. 15 against the Memphis Grizzlies.
On Jan. 31 against Milwaukee, Castle put up a stat line of 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists along with zero turnovers, becoming the first rookie to put up those stats since 2013 (Will Barton).
Castle is the only rookie with 500+ points, 100+ rebounds and 100+ assists this season. He also leads qualified rookies in PPG (12.2) and total steals (37), among other stats.
His talents will soon reach a bigger spotlight: Castle is set to soar high in the 2025 Slam Dunk Contest and also compete in the Rising Stars Game during All-Star Weekend this month. Wembanyama and Chris Paul will fill out San Antonio’s representation that weekend when they participate in the All-Star Game and Skills Challenge, respectively.
