SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs, the McCombs family and Hemisfair officially opened the Red McCombs Community Court at Tower Park, marking the first publicly accessible basketball court in downtown San Antonio’s Hemisfair district.
It continues the more than 50-year legacy of the Spurs investing in the San Antonio community.
Spurs players, including George Gervin, David Robinson, Victor Wembanyama and Keldon Johnson, as well as team executives alongside the McCombs family, were present for the opening ceremony. Following the ceremony, the Spurs Sports Academy hosted a youth basketball clinic, offering young athletes their first chance to play on the new court.
“This court represents the past, present, and future of San Antonio basketball and the city we call home,” said Peter J. Holt, Chairman and Managing Partner of Spurs Sports & Entertainment, in a release. “From Hemisfair Arena where we first played, to the McCombs family’s enduring impact, to this new space for future generations, today we honor history while investing in our city’s future – continuing a legacy begun by Red McCombs.”
The pavilion-style court, designed by Gómez Vázquez International, replaces a former pond and features design elements inspired by the architecture of HemisFair ’68, in a nod to the team’s original roots in the city. It also showcases the team’s classic fiesta colors.
And in a fitting touch, the new court is situated just steps away from the site of the former HemisFair Arena, the Spurs’ first arena in San Antonio.

With Biyombo back, the Spurs boast a big man corps of Biyombo, Victor Wembanyama, Kelly Olynyk, and Luke Kornet.
