Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama says he’s added more muscle to his frame

Victor Wembanyama says he has added more size to his slender frame but remains careful about it.

SAN ANTONIO — Coming into the NBA, one of the knocks on the San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama was his slight frame.

Despite standing at 7’3″, he entered the league at approximately 215 pounds, and at times, opponents would take advantage of this and play “bully ball” against him to dislodge him.

But those days are seemingly long gone.

While at Fanatics Fest 2025, Wemby was a guest on actor Kevin Hart’s “Cold As Balls” live show, where he opened up about his weight and how much he has added to his frame (now 245 pounds) heading into the 2025-26 season.

“I gained probably like 30 pounds,” Wembanyama said about how much muscle he has added since entering the league. “I’m in strength training, of course, but the main thing for me is I could, in theory, put on a lot of weight, but I would lose some of my mobility, some of my athleticism.”

Wemby and his training staff have been cautious in adding more muscle to his 7’3″ frame.

“So it’s something that needs to be done really carefully,” he added.

Last season, Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game before being shut down for the remainder of the season due to blood clots. He was also listed at 235 pounds last season.

The increased muscle should bode well for Wemby to handle opponents who try to use power moves to move him away or turn the tables on them, using his stronger frame to dominate in the paint or muscle his way to the rim.
