Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama takes center court in the final episode of ‘Pass The Rock’ NBA App series

“He’s not intimidated by anything. He knows he needs to do work,” said Gregg Popovich about Wembanyama.

SAN ANTONIO — With his rookie season over and capped with the 2023-24 Rookie of the Year Award honor, San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama stars in the final episode of “Pass The Rock” on the NBA App.

“Pass The Rock” is an original series on the NBA App that takes fans behind the scenes into the lives of some of the game’s rising stars and offers exclusive commentary from each player.

This season, the series also featured other notable players, such as Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, and Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton.

In the series finale, Wembanyama’s rookie journey is documented from his basketball start in France, who inspired him to pick up the game as a kid to facing his NBA idol – Kevin Durant – and so much more throughout his first NBA season.

Viewers will also get a glimpse into Wembanyama’s approach to the game from the rising star, coaches, and teammates.

“He gets it. He’s not impressed with himself. He’s not intimidated by anything. He knows he needs to do work. He’s completely gotten over himself. He’s been lauded for a long time – this attention didn’t just happen to him,” Spurs’ Gregg Popovich said. “He realizes that it’s all a fantasy. What matters is him becoming the best player he can be. That’s called character. When a player has character, he’s going to grow, and if he has talent, he’s going to become great.”

“The first time I saw him I said ‘Oh OK, he’s tall’ and then once the game started I was like ‘damn. This guy’s special…He was 11 – already had the skills, the good shooting form and the block-shot ability that he’s got right now,” Wemby’s Metropolitans 92 teammate Armel Traoré said.

Also, in this “Pass The Rock” episode, Wembanyama explains his thought process leading up to the draft and captures his perspective throughout the season, including following matchups against Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Wembanyama fever took over the NBA last season. This season, he was the third most-viewed player on NBA social media, cementing himself as part of the league’s next era of stars.
