Victor Wembanyama’s “Hoops Gambit” tournament in France was a hit, promising a bigger event next summer.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama hosted the “Hoops Gambit” tournament, which featured a day of chess play and three-on-three hoops in his hometown of Le Chesnay, France.
And because of its massive success, Wemby has announced on social media that the event will return next summer in his hometown.
First edition of ‘Hoops Gambit’ was a success. 150 Chess players, 300+ hoopers. In my hometown, few minutes from where I grew up. Thank you to the city of Le Chesnay and the volunteer workers who helped achieve this project. Thank you to my partners Nike and www.chess.com for supporting me.
This is just the beginning, we’re going to do it bigger and even better next year.
Joining Wemby at the year’s event was fellow Frenchman Rudy Gobert and his Spurs teammate, Jeremy Sochan.
VASSELL PUTS ON THE BOXING GLOVES
The 2025-26 Spurs season is still months away, but that isn’t stopping Devin Vassell from ensuring he is in peak physical condition.
The Spurs forward put on the boxing gloves at a local San Antonio gym and did some sparring in the ring.
Check out footage from his training shared on social media by 24skidump.
Boxing training ahead of a new season isn’t anything new for Vassell or the Spurs.
Annually, the team trains with San Antonio boxing legend Jesse James Leija and his staff to prepare them for the rigors of the NBA grind.
