Spurs’ Wembanyama named Rookie of the Month for February

It’s the second Rookie of the Month honor for Wembanyama.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama now has a second Rookie of the Month award under his belt.

The NBA announced that Wemby won the honor for the Western Conference in February.

February was nothing short of eye-opening for Wembanyama on the stat sheet.

In February, he averaged 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.0 blocks in 28.9 minutes while shooting 64% from the field. He led all rookies in scoring, rebounding, steals, and blocks.

This is the first Spurs rookie since Tim Duncan in 1998, to win the Rookie of the Month Award in back-to-back months.

Wemby also reached 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 150 blocks, making him the third-fastest player in league history to record those numbers,

He also recorded multiple five-plus block games in the month and became the fourth NBA rookie in league history to record a triple-double with 10-plus blocks since David Robinson in 1990.

He also was nominated for the West Player of the Month for February. That award was ultimately won by Lakers’ LeBron James.
