Victor Wembanyama seeks to enhance his skills with training from NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon.
SAN ANTONIO — In just two seasons, San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama is making significant waves in the NBA.
He’s a dominant force on both sides of the court, and the sky is the limit for the All-Star center, but is he looking to add more to his game courtesy of some training from another Hall of Fame big man?
Yes, according to Rockets’ icon Hakeem Olajuwon.
The pair met for the first time at the NCAA Final Four 2025 in San Antonio. During that meeting, Wemby asked Olajuwon if he could train with him.
“He asked me about that (training),” Olajuwon said. “I told him you got everything already. Just have fun out there. He has everything and more. I said you don’t need it.”
However, Wemby did not take “no” as an answer.
“He said, ‘I’d love to learn anyway’.”
That is high praise from one of the greatest centers ever to play basketball, but can you imagine Wemby incorporating some of Olajuwon’s footwork, especially his signature “Dream Shake,” into his offensive arsenal?
That would be devastating for opposing defenders, and Wemby is already a handful to guard.
It would be incredible to see Wemby adopt some of Olajuwon’s footwork and silky, smooth post moves. Perhaps he can use them as one of his go-to moves if the Spurs need a bucket.
And the praise did not stop there. Olajuwon complemented Wemby on how he is approachable and humble.
The Spurs’ offseason has begun, so perhaps Wemby can get in the gym with Olajuwon once he is cleared and his blood clot issue is resolved.
