SAN ANTONIO — Squatters may be to blame for an early morning fire in an unoccupied and boarded up home just northwest of downtown, SAFD says.
The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Gardina Street, not far from I-10.
Firefighters arrived to flames peaking over the roof from the back of the unoccupied and boarded up house. The fire burned through the side of the house and the garage area, causing the most damage to the backside of the house.
Fire officials say the exact cause is unknown at this time but say because of the cooler weather and the fact that there were no utilities going to the house, a squatter might have caused the fire.
No injuries were reported.
This is a developing story.
