Stabbing injures two brothers during Christmas Eve dispute in East Bexar County

A Christmas Eve domestic dispute in East Bexar County led to a violent altercation, resulting in two brothers being hospitalized after being stabbed.

CONVERSE, Texas — Two brothers are recovering after a Christmas Eve family dispute turned violent in East Bexar County, according to police.

Officers were called around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday to a home on Brigade Bend near Interstate 10.

Police say the incident began as an argument between a man and his girlfriend inside the home. During that dispute, the man left in a truck, taking one of the children with him. Officers said the child is the woman’s and not biologically related to the man.

When the man returned with the child, the argument continued and escalated. Police say the woman’s two brothers — who were visiting from out of town — became involved and began assaulting the man.

According to investigators, the man pulled out a knife, telling officers he did so because he was being attacked by both brothers. He stabbed each of them once in the chest and abdomen in what police described as self-defense.

Officers said the brothers suffered small puncture wounds that were not life-threatening. Both were taken to a nearby hospital and were alert and talking to officers.

The man was treated at the scene for injuries police say were caused by being punched during the fight. He was detained but not immediately charged.

Sgt. Brian Killian with the Converse Police Department said detectives are still working to determine who may face charges. Investigators say the two brothers could potentially be charged with misdemeanor assault with bodily injury once they are released from the hospital.

Police recovered the knife at the scene. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
