SAN ANTONIO — An adult staff member at Raba Elementary School who was struck by a personal vehicle Wednesday morning on school property has died, according to district officials.
Northside Independent School District spokesman Barry Perez confirmed the incident happened at the campus in the 9700 block of Raba Drive on the northwest side of San Antonio.
Perez said EMS crews responded to the scene, treated the employee and transported her to a local hospital.
The San Antonio Fire Department indicated the injured person was an adult woman and listed the patient as a priority-one transport.
Perez later confirmed that the staff member, identified as Donna Wisniewski-Ballinsat, died due to her injuries. Wisniewski-Ballinsat was a day tutor at Raba but previously was a classroom teacher in the district.
A letter sent to families read:
“I am writing to you this afternoon with an update regarding the accident that took place on our campus this morning. I am saddened to inform you that our staff member, Donna Wisniewski-Balinsat, has died as a result of her injuries.
Our entire school community grieves the loss of this very special member of our Raba family.
Please know that we are here for your children and for each other. We currently have counselors on campus from across the district, and we will have extra staff available for as long as it takes to support our students and staff.
I ask that you keep Mrs. Wisniewski-Balinsat’s family in your thoughts. They are going through an unimaginable time, and I know the Raba community will join me in sending them our support.
Sincerely,
Principal Cole Bader”
District officials say the incident remains under investigation.
