Standoff with police ends after suspect surrenders to police

Officers say the suspect was inside a vehicle, refusing to get out.

SAN ANTONIO — A standoff with police has ended after the suspect surrendered to officers early Tuesday morning.

It all began just northwest of downtown on Fresno Road at Capitol Street, just east of I-10, around midnight when he was pulled over by SAPD.

Officers say the man was inside a vehicle and refusing to get out. He was under surveillance by state and federal agencies for violating parole and had a felony warrant for narcotics trafficking, according to police.

He refused to cooperate with police and blocked traffic, which resulted in a standoff with police.

SWAT was called to the scene as police tried to peacefully talk him out of the vehicle. He eventually surrendered after an hours-long standoff with officers. Police tell us they did find drugs in his car.

The man was taken into custody without incident or injury and is being transported to jail where he will be booked on new charges for narcotics possession and evading in a vehicle on top of his current warrant.

Law enforcement say he did move around San Antonio but can’t provide the man’s identity until he’s in the jail system.

This is a developing story.
