‘Stay out of flood waters’ | Texas Parks and Wildlife warning about dangers in the water

Floodwaters can remain hazardous for days and may contain harmful bacteria, hidden debris, and powerful currents.

KERR COUNTY, Texas — Officials are cautioning folks who may want to get in the water that there may be hidden dangers lurking in the water.

Texas Parks and Wildlife wants you to wait to get back in the waters in the areas that flooded.

The department says you need to wait for official clearance before wading into the river. Until the water clears up, you don’t know what’s under the surface, like all the debris that was swept away.

The waters can also contain dangerous bacteria, as well as strong currents.

“Floodwaters can remain hazardous for days and may contain harmful bacteria, hidden debris, and powerful currents,” said Texas Parks and Wildlife. “Wait for official clearance from local authorities before entering any affected areas. Stay safe!”

For your safety, check for park closure notifications on social media or the park alert map before you travel.
