
Stephen Clare has pled guilty to the murder of his baby daughter and attacks on his wife and toddler, accepting life in prison and avoiding a possible death penalty.
SAN ANTONIO — The man accused of killing his baby daughter in 2023 and stabbing his other child and his wife has pled guilty and accepted life in prison, court records show.
Stephen Clare was charged with capital murder of a child in the death of the 11-month old baby. He was also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the attacks his wife and toddler. Court records confirm that Clare accepted a plea deal for life in prison for pleading guilty on those charges.
Back on April 10, 2023, Clare is accused of shooting his wife, Mariah Gardner, and stabbing his two daughters, 11- month-old Willow and two-year-old Rosalie. Willow did not survive her injuries. Mariah and Rosalie were both critically injured but survived. The attack took place at the family’s home in the 500 block of Robinhood Place near Alamo Heights.
The district attorney had previously indicated that the deatlh penalty would be pursued in this case. With this plea deal, Clare avoids going to trial and possibly being placed on death row.
