Stephon Castle has confidence in Team Spurs at NBA Skills Challenge; Admits to trying to dunk on Wembanyama

Like many others, Castle was unsuccessful at dunking on teammate Wembanyama.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs players Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul will compete in the 2025 NBA Skills Challenge on Saturday night, and teammate Stephon Castle believes they will do well.

“I think they’re going to do good,” Castle said at the NBA Rising Stars media session.

Paul and Wembanyama must navigate the course, which tests the players passing, shooting, ball-handling and speed.

Paul, a veteran of the event, has the experience and the skill set to do well, and Castle adds that Wemby’s skills will do well in the event despite being a towering 7’4″.

“I feel like Vic is a lot more skilled than people think, especially at his size,” said Castle. “Obviously, CP is one of the best point guards ever.”

Wemby and Paul will have to compete against a strong field that includes Team Cavs (Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley), Team Rooks (Alex Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher), and Team Warriors (Draymond Green and Moses Moody).

Paul has played in the event several times since his days with New Orleans but has not won the contest. That should be extra motivation for the duo to play well.

Wemby is pretty athletic and swift. For a player his size, he can also pass and handle basketball.

“I feel like them teaming up will be fun to watch,” Castle said.

The last Spur to win the event was Tony Parker in 2012.

CASTLE TRIED TO SCALE MT. WEMBANYAMA

Just because they are teammates doesn’t mean Castle has shied away from attempting to dunk on his teammate, Wembanyama.

Castle admits he has tried to dunk on Wemby during practice but, like many, has not succeeded.

However, he will try again to put his teammate on a poster.

“I have,” Castle said about attempting to dunk on Wemby. “I’m going to try him again. We’re going to be teammates for a while, so I’ll eventually get him.”
