Stephon Castle’s historic triple-double nets him his first Western Conference Player of the Week honor

The second-year Spurs point guard turned in a thoroughly dominant performance in San Antonio’s Saturday win over Dallas.

SAN ANTONIO — The NBA has announced that the San Antonio Spurs‘ Stephon Castle was named the Western Conference Player of the Week, the 21-year-old point guard’s first such accolade. The award is for the week of Feb. 2-8. 

Castle averaged 24 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and three steals in 26.7 minutes per game across three matchups last week, all San Antonio wins. He also shot 63% from the field and 36.4% from three in those three game.

Saturday’s game against the Mavericks is what likely cemented the honor for Castle. He made Spurs history by recording a career-high 40 points to go with 12 rebounds, 12 assists and two steals in the home victory. With that statline, Castle joined David Robinson as the only players in franchise history to record a 40-point triple-double; Castle also became the third-youngest player in NBA history to accomplish the feat, behind only LeBron James and Luka Dončić.

Castle also recorded 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in 26 minutes in a win versus Oklahoma City on Feb. 4, and finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals in just 21 minutes off the bench in a road win at Dallas on Feb. 5.
