Stop the Killing March aims to raise awareness for thousands of healthy animals euthanized every year

Organizers say they hope that San Antonio can one day be a “No Kill” city.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio animal advocates and local rescues want to bring awareness to the thousands of healthy animals killed at our city shelters.

On Sunday, they will march the streets of downtown San Antonio from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The march will begin at Municipal Plaza at 114 W. Commerce Downtown.

The San Antonio Rescue Coalition, along with local rescues, are hosting the “Stop the Killing March.”  They want to call attention to the stray and overpopulation problems in our city.

“Anybody that lives in San Antonio knows we have a stray dog and roaming dog problem, but they don’t realize how many dogs are having to be killed because of it. This is to bring awareness to that, as well as to bring the awareness for the amount of people that we have that want change,” said Jenna Loos, Animal Advocate, Rescuer

Organizers say 5,000 dogs and cats were euthanized in 2023. This is the third march by the rescue coalition.
