Store employee jumps on hood of getaway car after suspect allegedly steals beer from store, police say

Police say the victim suffered life-threatening injuries after falling off of the vehicle.

SAN ANTONIO — A store clerk was injured when police say he jumped on the hood of a vehicle that was driving away from the store after the suspects inside it attempted to steal beer from the location in a “grab-and-go.”

Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Rigsby Avenue for a welfare check at a nearby store after being told t=it was left open and unattended by an employee. Police dispatch advised the officers that a car was seen driving erratically nearby with a man clinging to the top of it.

Police drove around the area and found the 32-year-old store employee a short distance away from the store, injured. 

The victim told police that an unknown suspect came in to his store and he saw them steal beer. He told police he tried to stop them, and as they began to drive away, he jumped on the hood of the vehicle. Unfortunately, they continued to drive off with him on top.

He fell a short distance from the store after being on top of the vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

No description was provided of the suspect or the vehicle they were driving.
