Student arrested at LEE High School after gun found in backpack, NEISD says

NEISD urges families to continue speaking with students about school safety and reporting anything that does not seem right.

SAN ANTONIO — A student at Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School was arrested Monday morning after campus officials and district police found a gun in the student’s backpack, according to North East ISD.

In an email sent to families, North East ISD said campus administrators received a report that a student on campus “possibly had a gun.”

According to the district, administrators and the North East Police Department immediately identified and located the student in a hallway.

The district said the student was apprehended and officers searched the student’s backpack as a precaution. A gun was found inside and the student was arrested, NEISD said.

In the message, Principal Alex Escamilla encouraged families to use the incident as an opportunity to remind students not to bring prohibited items to school, noting that such items can cause “unintended fear or panic.”

Escamilla said anyone who brings these items to campus will face consequences.

NEISD also urges families to continue speaking with students about school safety and reporting anything that does not seem right.
