From concerts to curious finds and family-friendly summer fun, here are a few can’t-miss events happening in the Alamo City this weekend.

SAN ANTONIO — The dog days of summer have arrived and San Antonio families are checking off school supply lists before class is back in session.

The summer heat keeps blazing as we kick off the month of August, but this weekend’s spooky and enchanting themes are perfect for those already anticipating the return of crisp autumn air.

Pay tribute to the Prince of Darkness at Ozzfest, discover the weird and wonderful at the Oddities & Curiosities Expo, get spellbound at the Mall of Magic and more.

Here are five ways to soak up the season while it lasts!

Ozzfest

Fans will unite at a beloved local music venue on Friday to pay tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away last Tuesday at the age of 76.

The free show features local cover band System of a Brown, who will perform hits by Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. The event is inspired by Ozzy’s long-running music festival tour “Ozzfest” that featured some the biggest names in heavy metal.

When: Friday, August 1 at 8 p.m.

Oddities & Curiosities Expo

Get your tickets to explore the peculiar at the Oddities & Curiosities Expo, happening this weekend at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

The O&C Expo is the largest internationally travelling oddities event where you can explore items such as taxidermy, preserved specimens, horror/Halloween-inspired pieces, creepy clothing, animal skulls/bones, funeral collectibles and much more. 

The event offers a safe place for those intrigued by all things “weird” to discover new artists, meet new friends and be surrounded by a community of like-minded people.

Mall of Magic

Don’t miss a free mystical experience at Rolling Oaks Mall on Saturday.

Mall of Magic will feature tarot readers, live performances, witchy flash tattoos and a curated selection of local vendors offering all things magic and handmade.

Creative Nights Summer Series

Join the Carver Community Cultural Center on Saturday for a night of creativity, inspiration and music education at the second installment of its Creative Nights Summer Series.

The free event features live music performances, interactive workshops, food trucks, panel discussions and opportunities to network with local artists and creatives.

When: Saturday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Summer bash

Soak up the summer at Historic Market Square on Saturday for a day full of fun, entertainment and activities for all ages.

Compete in fun challenges like a musical hula hoop contest to earn bragging rights and a Market Square swag bag. Plus, don’t miss a school supplies giveaway.

The event is free and open to the public.

Fiesta Noche Del Rio, the recurring celebration of culture and dance along the River Walk, will light up the Arneson River Theatre stage for one last weekend before the end of its 68th season.

The start of a new month marks another round of first Friday festivities. Don’t miss the First Friday Art Walk at Blue Star Arts Complex or enjoy free live music, food and outdoor fun at Party on the Plaza at Tower of the Americas.

Finally, don’t miss two legendary classic rock tributes. On Saturday, a two hour long, world-renowned performance at the Tobin Center pays homage to the stage theatrics, showmanship and music of Hall of Fame inductees: Queen.
