Super Bowl commercial with Aubrey Plaza marks her first onscreen appearance since husband’s death

The 60-second ad spot, which was filmed in November 2024, was Plaza’s first onscreen appearance since her husband Jeff Baena’s death.

WASHINGTON — Aubrey Plaza joined Bad Bunny and Michael Shannon as one of the stars in the Ritz Super Bowl commercial that aired Sunday.

In the ad, Plaza is seen entering the Ritz Salty Club with Michael Shannon as the pair debate about who is “saltier.”

Plaza crowns herself the “saltiest” as her and Shannon approach a table full of Ritz crackers.

“Saltier than me? When I smile people assume it’s a glitch,” Shannon quips at Plaza.

“Please,” she says in her signature monotone voice. “I’m the human version of Monday.”

The pair bickers back and forth before Bad Bunny joins in, breaking all the “salty” rules with his smile.

It was Plaza’s second Super Bowl commercial appearance in a row, having starred alongside her Parks and Recreation co-star Nick Offerman in a Mountain Dew commercial.

The 60-second ad spot, which was filmed in November 2024, was also her first onscreen appearance since her husband Jeff Baena’s death

Baena, who was a producer and director known for comedies like “The Little Hours” and “Life After Beth,” died in his Los Angeles home in early January at 47-years old. Officials ruled his death a suicide after an investigation.

Plaza and Baena had been together for 12 years and had been married since 2021. The two worked on multiple projects together, including “The Little Hours,” a 2017 R-rated comedy set in the Middle Ages, and “Life After Beth,” an R-rated comedy about zombies.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Plaza and the family said in the statement at the time. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
