Support services available for Hill Country Prep students after campus shooting

Counseling and crisis resources are available after Hill Country Prep shooting.

BULVERDE, Texas — Families at Hill Country College Preparatory High School are being encouraged to seek mental health support for students following Monday’s campus shooting.

School officials say it’s normal for students to experience fear, confusion, or anxiety after a lockdown or traumatic event, even when the situation has been secured.

Counselors and student support specialists will be available to help students process what happened, with additional resources offered both through the school and across the region.

Parents are encouraged to talk openly with their children, maintain routines, and watch for signs of ongoing stress such as changes in sleep, mood, or behavior.

Several local and statewide organizations are also offering support, including crisis hotlines, grief counseling programs, and community mental health services.

Among them is the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which provides free, 24/7 confidential support, as well as regional services like Hill Country MHDD and Bluebonnet Trails Community Services.

Officials say families should not hesitate to reach out if a student appears overwhelmed, emphasizing that early support can make a critical difference in recovery.

The district says support will remain available in the coming days as the community continues to process the incident.
