
Dennis is accused of shooting a Jacksonville officer Sunday night, injuring her and her K-9 unit before evading law enforcement.
JACKSONVILLE, Texas — Bobby Michael Dennis, the man accused of shooting a Jacksonville police officer, has been taken into custody.
Chief Steven Markasky confirmed to CBS19 Dennis was taken into custody Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Dennis is accused of shooting a Jacksonville officer Sunday night, injuring her and her K-9 unit. He evaded capture by police and law enforcement, prompting a manhunt for his arrest.
Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted Jacksonville PD in arresting Dennis at a property on CR 3509 West of Jacksonville city limits in Cuney. He was located in a wooded area and surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.
Dennis is charged with the following offenses:
- Attempted capital murder of a peace officer
- Interference with police service animal
- Two counts of obstruction or retaliation
The officer was airlifted to a Tyler hospital and later deemed to be in stable condition, suffering a gunshot wound to her arm and leg. Her K-9 unit, “Renzo,” was treated at a Tyler-area emergency vet after he was shot through the door of the officer’s patrol vehicle. Chief Steven Markasky said the officer did not draw her weapon during the incident. The K-9 was not deployed and never left the vehicle, he added.
A Blue Alert was issued for Dennis. Several officials, including Greg Abbott, Cherokee County Crime Stoppers and an anonymous donor, pledged a total of $21,000 for information leading to his arrest.
