Suspect charged with Capital Murder after allegedly shooting man, leaving him in ditch to die

The 36-year-old man had been shot multiple times, according to police.

SAN ANTONIO — Police have arrested the man they believe shot a man and left him in a ditch near South Flores Street on the southside.

San Antonio Police responded to the intersection of East Vestal Place and Chaucer Avenue around 10:42 p.m. March 31 for reports of a shooting in progress.

When officers got there, they found Steven Cagney, 36, in a ditch that had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Investigators say Cagney was trying to sell a firearm to some men, but ended up getting shot.

David Francisco Rebelo-Garica, 19, was arrested and is being charged with Capital Murder.

This is a developing story.
