Suspect connected to Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra murders asks for bond reduction

A judge denied Myrta Romanos’ request to lower her $600K bond in the 2023 deaths of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra.

SAN ANTONIO — One of the suspect facing charges in connection with the 2023 deaths of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra requested a bond reduction in court Wednesday. A judge denied the request.

Myrta Romanos is charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

18-year-old Savanah Soto – who was pregnant – and 22-year-old Matthew Guerra were found dead with gunshot wounds in a locked car on Dec. 26, 2023.

San Antonio police arrested a father and son, Christopher and Ramon Preciado, on Jan 4, 2024, about two weeks after Christopher allegedly shot and killed Soto and Guerra over a “narcotics-related deal that went bad.”

Authorities say Christopher called his father for help before the pair hid the victims’ bodies in a car at a Medical Center apartment complex, where they were found the day after Christmas in 2023. Soto’s cell phone and surveillance footage showing the Preciados’ car eventually led police to them. Myrta Romanos, Christopher Preciado’s stepmother, was also arrested.

Wednesday, Romanos appeared in court as her lawyers tried to reduce her bonds. She has bonds totally $600,000. A judge denied her request to reduce the bond amount and questioned why she has been in jail for two years.

Ramon Preciado was released on bond back in February after his lawyers successfully got his bond reduced to $450,000. It was previously set at $600,000.

Romanos has a tentative trial date set for Nov. 3, but that is expected to get delayed. Christopher Preciado’s trial is set to start sometime in January.
