The 44-year-old suspect was reportedly seen pacing on the sidewalk coated in blood was booked for murder.
SAN ANTONIO — Police arrested a man on the northwest side Monday morning who told officers he was covered in his wife’s blood. Officers confirmed a 51-year-old woman was shot to death inside the apartment, prompting authorities to arrest the man and book him for murder.
Mayra Orta, who lives across the street from the Oak Creek apartments, recalls hearing some commotion at dawn.
“I did hear a sound that was like a gunshot but then I said maybe it was a firework,” Orta said. “I never peaked out but he was using the F word and just screaming and me I thought it’s probably somebody else, they’re drunk or something.”
She then went back to sleep as police started showing up to the scene and confronted the 44-year-old suspect who was seen wandering around covered in blood.
The first call came in around 7 a.m. to the Oak Creek Apartments in the 6100 block of Vance Jackson.
Officers noted he appeared distraught and was acting in an erratic manner.
“He was walking up and down the sidewalk here just acting very bizarrely. One person called thinking he might step into traffic,” said Sgt. Steven Bratina.
When asked about the blood, the man said it was his wife’s and she had been shot inside their apartment.
The suspect was then arrested without incident.
This remains an active investigation as authorities continue to dig for answers surrounding what led to the murder.
“I feel sorry for the person that died. But with this happening that it’s so close to my place it’s like okay, gonna be a little more aware, even though I am now,” Orta said.
