Suspected DWI driver captured after I-10 rollover collision leaves man injured

Police say the driver drove off following the incident, but a witness followed him and convinced him to return to the accident scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was injured after a suspected DWI driver sideswiped his vehicle while he was trying to exit I-10 on Saturday.

It happened around 7:15 p.m. on I-10 near the exit for Vance Jackson Road.

Police say the 43-year-old victim was in a blue Ford Ranger when the driver of a blue Chrysler Town and Country van veered right and sideswiped him, forcing him onto the exit ramp and off of the road. His vehicle was then redirected onto the grassy median which turns into a concrete embankment. His vehicle ended up rolling over and into a ditch.

The driver of the Chrysler fled the scene, failing to stop and render aid to the victim and a witness followed. The witness was able to convince the Chrysler to drive back to the scene where he was apprehended by police.

The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injury.

The driver to the Chrysler was found to be intoxicated and arrested for DWI and Collision Involving Injury, police say.

This is a developing story.
