Suspicious package found in Castroville; bomb squad uses controlled detonation

U.S. Highway 90 was closed for several hours due to proximity to the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A suspicious package found in Castroville was neutralized using a controlled detonation this afternoon, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene in the 1100 block of U.S. Highway 90 West around 2 p.m. Monday.

Castroville Police Department officers got assistance from the San Antonio Police Department bomb squad.

The roadway near the suspicious package was shut down while law enforcement worked to secure the area. There were no injuries reported.

The sheriff’s office reported via Facebook that the roadway reopened just before 5:30 p.m.

A Castroville Police Department investigation into the package’s origins was continuing afterward.
