Swanky Northside San Antonio H-E-B closer to opening

It’s really happening, y’all. There’s a sign and everything. MySA has been preparing the northern most portion of Bexar County for some time now that a new, swanky H-E-B is coming to the Leon Springs area. Well, the legendary Lone Star grocer just took a Texas-sized step toward completing the latest storefront set to anchor a massive residential-commercial hybrid development north of San Antonio.

The luxe new Northside store has been well underway for much of 2023, but it’s starting to look like the new grocery spot will meet its completion date of Q1 in 2024 identified in the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Rumors have been swirling among local real estate agents and online that the newest Northside H-E-B may be open as soon as March, and with the sign going up, it’s hard to imagine it’d take more than three months to open its doors.

The new $24.6 million store – with a $3.94 million gas pump and car wash combo out front – is at the center of a sprawling 118-acre development along I-10 in between the Northside of San Antonio and the Hill Country town of Boerne. This will mark the third H-E-B along the stretch of I-10 between San Antonio and Boerne, mirroring the continued population boom hitting the Texas Hill Country. Residents of both Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch have long asked for another H-E-B to alleviate crowded lanes and checkout lines in the quaint Boerne location.

For real H-E-B lovers, of which San Antonio has plenty, there’s going to be a massive, 600–700-unit apartment complex right next door to the new H-E-B. Talk about living the good life. Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to walk to your local Texas staple?

While a lot of progress has been made on the new, 110,000-square-foot location along I-10, H-E-B officials are staying tightlipped on the project, telling MySA there’s no new information to share about the project as of Wednesday, December 27. But there’s a new sign, y’all. It’s really about to happen.
