PORT NECHES, Texas — A 21-year-old man shot his father in the abdomen then shot himself in the face during a domestic incident that triggered a SWAT standoff Friday night in Port Neches.
Officers responded to the shooting around 10:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Llano St. after dispatch reported information that the man had shot his father.
The wounded father was able to exit the house and received immediate medical attention before being transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The son remained inside the house following the initial shooting, refusing to respond to officers’ commands.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was requested and sent to the scene to assist with the standoff.

Multiple agencies participated in the response, including Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, Texas Department of Public Safety, Port Arthur Police Department, Nederland Police Department, Groves Police Department, Jefferson County Crime Lab, Port Neches Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance.
Port Neches Police Department worked with their Central Dispatch throughout the incident to ensure the safety of surrounding residents during the multi-hour response.
