She had just had a litter of 14 puppies under a house when she was found back in June of 2022.
VON ORMY, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week, we went to God’s Dogs Rescue in Von Ormy to meet Suzie, a Boxer and Retriever mix that’s a little over four-years-old who has never had a family of her very own. She was found with her litter of puppies under a house back in June of 2022 and has been with God’s Dogs ever since. All of her puppies found homes but sadly, Suzie is still waiting on her forever family.
Suzie has a bobbed tail and the energy and intelligence of a Boxer combined with the sweetness of a Retriever. She weighs about 60 pounds now. But that wasn’t always the case.
“Our vet tech had gone for lunch to one of the local Mexican restaurants back in the summer of 2022 and saw a bunch of young pups and a couple adults that she was told belonged to the neighbor by the restaurant,” said Julianne Marchbanks, Founder of God’s Dogs Rescue. “They had been feeding them, but they were so skinny and sad looking.”
Shelter staff say that Suzie was the best mom and really loved her pups. She was even trying to nurse all 14 of them at the same time. All of the puppies were adopted pretty quickly, but sadly, Suzie remains in the care of God’s Dogs, and they aren’t sure why.
Suzie gets along really well with other dogs and has also been tested with cats, which she ignored. She might actually be afraid of kitties but that’s really to be determined.
“Suzie is good with cats, dogs, and children, but at her size would be best with older kids,” said Julianne.
She is a smart, active dog and is already crate-trained.
“She has the nub of a Boxer and the fun-loving personality of a Retriever,” said Julianne. “Her ears are always perked up listening for fun to be had and she always has a smile on her face!”
Suzie is healthy, current on all her vaccinations, microchipped and has already been spayed.
“This girl is the best at everything she puts her mind to… she will be your BESTEST GIRL, if you give her the chance,” said Julianne. “Please hurry because she has waited long enough!”
Who is ready to step up and make Suzie’s doggy dreams come true? And guess what? If you live in another state, God’s Dogs will bring her to you for an additional fee.
For whoever adopts Suzie, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free “Glow Up” Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy’s most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!
