Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” renewed for third season

The hit show’s renewal comes as its second season’s premiere episode in November struck viewership.

FORT WORTH, Texas — “Landman,” the hit Texas-set oil drama series co-created by Taylor Sheridan which has filmed in North Texas, is officially getting a third season, Paramount+ announced.

Paramount+ announced on Friday that the hit TV show starring Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore was renewed for a third season.

“Landman” garnered more than 9.2 million streaming views for its second season premiere episode on Nov. 16, marking a 262% jump from the first season’s premiere, and making it the most watched premiere for any original series for Paramount+, according to the announcement.

Set in the proverbial oil boomtowns of West Texas, “Landman” is “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.” The show is based on the 11-part podcast series “Boomtown.”

“Landman” is co-created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace and produced by Paramount Television Studios, 101 Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions.

The show’s popularity and renewal come as Sheridan continues to grow his impact on the film and TV industry in North Texas.

Sheridan’s SGS Studios, in collaboration with Paramount, and Hillwood announced in August plans for a 450,000-square-foot TV and film production facility in the 27,000-acre AllianceTexas development in north Fort Worth near Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport. The space is expected to support four large-scale productions simultaneously and marks the largest running studio facility in the Lone Star State, according to a news release

Hillwood and SGS Studios said at the time that the facility is just the start of a large TV and film production hub in the Alliance area with “several” additional campuses planned, “designed to anchor long-term industry growth and position Texas as one of the world’s premier destinations for content creation.”
