TEA releases STAAR test scores for grades 3-8 | How did Texas students do this year?

How did your child’s grade do? The state agency said reading language arts scores surpassed pre-pandemic levels.

TEXAS, USA — EDITOR’S NOTE: The video above is from early June when the TEA released the STAAR EOC test scores for 2025.

The Texas Education Agency released the 2025 STAAR test results Tuesday morning for grades 3-8. This includes tests in reading language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The state agency said reading language arts scores surpassed pre-pandemic levels across nearly all grade levels. 

“These results are encouraging and reflect the impact of the strategic supports we’ve implemented in recent years,” said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath. “With RLA scores now surpassing pre-pandemic levels, we are seeing meaningful signs of academic recovery and progress. While this year also saw some improvements in math, clearly more work is needed.” 

How did Texas students perform in the 2025 STAAR test? 

5th graders saw a 4% increase of students who met grade level expectations compared to last year. 

3rd and 4th graders saw a 3% increase in students who met grade level expectations compared to spring 2024. 

8th graders saw a 2% increase in students who met grade level expectations compared to last spring. 

Grades 6 and 7 remained steady, matching last year’s results.  

MATHEMATICS: 

3rd graders saw a 4% increase in students who met grade level expectations, while 8th graders saw 5% increase compared to spring 2024. 

Grade 4 only saw a 1% increase compared to last spring. 

Grade 5 and 7 saw a modest dip in students who met grade level expectations compared to last year, according to the TEA. 

SCIENCE

Grade 5 students who met grade level expectations increased by 3% compared to spring 2024.

Grade 8 students who met grade level expectations increased by 4%. compared to last year. 

SOCIAL STUDIES: 

Grade 8 students who met grade level expectations dropped by 1% compared to spring 2024.

  • Click on STAAR 3-8 under program. 
  • Select Group Summary: Performance Levels & Reporting Categories under the report category.
  • Select Spring 2025 under the administrations categories.  
  • Choose one of the four subjects (mathematics, reading, science, social studies) 
  • Select a grade level.
