Team Jamaica is discussing adding NBA players such as Spurs’ Devin Vassell to boost its basketball roster.
SAN ANTONIO — According to a report via the Jamaica Observer, Team Jamaica is in talks to add San Antonio Spurs’ Devin Vassell, along with Scottie Barnes and Isaiah Stewart, to the basketball roster.
It’s reported that he qualifies to represent Jamaica through his father.
“JABA President Paulton Gordon says he’s optimistic that the three will strongly consider joining the team in the future as they seek to be a force in FIBA competitions and qualify for the Olympics for the first time.”
Houston’s Amen Thompson and Detroit’s Ausar Thompson are also reportedly in talks to join Jamaica.
Should everything fall into place, this would be an excellent opportunity for Vassell to represent Jamaica and continue the team’s rich history of players representing their native countries, such as Victor Wembanyama and Tony Parker (France), Manu Ginobili (Argentina), and Pau Gasol (Spain).
SOCHAN IS WORKING ON HIS OUTSIDE SHOT
Forward Jeremy Sochan shared a video on social media of his time in the gym during the offseason, focusing on his perimeter shot.
Sochan, who was using San Antonio’s Clark High School’s gym, is seen knocking down outside shots, an area of his game that needs improvement.
He shot 53.5% from the field, 30.8% from three-point range, and 69.6% from the free-throw line in the 2024-25 season, averaging 11.4 points per game over 54 games.
Sochan’s three-point shooting has been a consistent weakness, but he has shown slight improvements since his rookie season.
Improving his perimeter shooting would make him a more complete player, open up the Spurs’ offense, and provide the team with another floor spacer for Victor Wembanyama to operate, among other benefits.
The video does show an improvement in his shot mechanics, but this will have to be his primary target area as he prepares for the 2025-26 season.
