KERRVILLE, Texas — Four-legged heroes are also playing a critical role in the emergency response.
The specially trained search and rescue dogs from Texas A&M are along the Guadalupe River trying to find those still missing.
“In Kerrville, the VET has remained focused on protecting and treating the hardworking canine teams that are searching for the missing,” said Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team in a Facebook post. “These searches have been difficult, with numerous snake bites and the challenges of navigating rough terrain. We are honored to do our part in supporting these heroes, and we’re hopeful that the search missions will be able to help grieving families find closure.”
Veterinary teams from Texas A&M are also on the ground, working to keep the dogs healthy and mission-ready.
The dogs spend hours in floodwaters amongst the debris and also spend long hours in the field.
If you’d like to support the team, contributions can be made to their deployment mission and are always appreciated. Gifts can be directed to tx.ag/SupportTheVET.
“This has been a particularly solemn mission; while all loss of life is tremendously sad, the loss of young children hits particularly hard for the entire community and the state as a whole,” said Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team. “Please keep all the folks in this region, and in other flood-ravaged areas of Texas, in your thoughts and prayers.”
