SAN ANTONIO — It’s been more than six years since the disappearance of Amalia “Molly” Garza, and her family continues searching for answers into her whereabouts.
Amalia’s mother Sylvia says not knowing what happened to her daughter has been tough, but now a new billboard is giving the family some hope.
“This is where my heart, has been telling me, to work this area,” said Sylvia Gonzalez, Amalia’s mother.
Gonzalez says driving up and seeing her daughter’s face on the billboard was emotional. The billboard is located along Texas State Highway 46, in Spring Branch, and will be up for eight months.
“This is the area where my daughter was last known to be coming to visit,” said Gonzalez.
Amalia was last seen on March 1, 2018, after telling her mother she was going to a party with her boyfriend Steven Rendon.
Two years after Amalia disappeared, San Antonio police arrested Rendon for kidnapping a woman and sexually assaulting her. He is currently serving time.
Rendon has never been charged or named as a suspect in Amalia’s disappearance.
On Saturday, Amalia’s family held an outreach event under the billboard with the nonprofit Search & Support San Antonio.
“This is important because it’s my understanding that she lived in this area at one time, and there were reports that she had been seen here prior to her disappearance,” said Lori Wittmeyer, Intake Case Manager, Search & Support San Antonio.
Fliers and other items were handed out with information about Amalia’s case, in hopes someone will come forward with information about her disappearance.
“We’re here just to support the family and we will continue to do that until till we find Molly and can bring her home and get some closure for this case,” said Wittmeyer.
For Gonzalez, she continues searching for that closure and says Amalia’s disappearance is especially tough around the holidays.
She hopes someone will see her pain and come forward with information that will give her some peace, this holiday season.
“These tears are tears of sadness. The pain that I go through, you know, that their hearts can be moved also, and let us know something,” said Gonzalez.
