SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio authorities say a man is dead after a jet engine crushed him when it rolled off a loading dock at the Boeing Center at Tech Port on Friday afternoon.
Around 4:30 p.m., officers with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to the south-side event center and complex on General Hudnell Drive after receiving a report that someone had died. A large contingent of emergency personnel were seen in the facility’s back lot.
Police officials on scene said a crew was in the process of unloading the jet engine – which can weigh anywhere from 500 pounds to more than 10 tons – when disaster struck.
“They had it up on a rolling dolly,” the SAPD representative said. “As he turned around to do something, the dolly with the engine on it began to roll back and they both fell off the four-foot dock.”
SAPD said that’s when the engine fell on the man, killing him. He’s estimated to be in his 70s, but hasn’t been identified.
That information could change as their investigation continues.
