Teen accused in River Walk pepper-spray attack ordered detained

Kasidy Trevino was reprimanded by a juvenile court judge while making an appearance on charges unrelated to the November incident in downtown San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — The teenager accused of pepper-spraying multiple people along the San Antonio River Walk after she was asked to lower the volume on her cell phone in November will remain behind bars for now.

Kasidy Luz Trevino, 17, appeared in juvenile court on Monday for unrelated crimes she allegedly committed before turning 17. (Texas criminal courts consider 17-year-old adults.) 436th Juvenile District Court Judge William Shaw reprimanded Trevino and ordered that she remain behind bars in connection with the previous accusations.

“You were on probation and you were at the River Walk acting a fool,” Shaw told Trevino in court. “You weren’t thinking this through at all.”

Trevino was arrested Nov. 26 after she pepper-sprayed passengers on a River Walk tour boat over a week earlier, injuring a woman, a 3-year-old child and others, according to an arrest affidavit. Officers arrived to the scene on Nov. 15 to find the victims in pain and experiencing burning sensations.

The affidavit states an argument broke out between Trevino and a 68-year-old woman while on the boat. She eventually left, records state, but once the boat was secured beneath a footbridge, Trevino walked above the vessel and sprayed the passengers below.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing Trevino pepper-spray the victims, according to officials, who credit a viral TikTok video of the incident with helping to identify her. She’s facing charges of assault and injury to a child/elderly person in connection with the November attack.

Meanwhile, Trevino is due to return to court on Jan. 8 for her other charges.
