Teen accused of luring woman on Instagram, shooting her in ambush style robbery

Police say 18-year-old suspect shot a woman multiple times, then pulled a gun on a Macy’s worker weeks later.

SAN ANTONIO — An 18-year-old man is facing multiple aggravated robbery charges after police say he ambushed a woman in a social media setup that turned violent.

According to an arrest warrant, Manuel Morgan and three other teens lured a 19-year-old woman to the 4100 block of Desert View around 1:30 a.m. on April 2. Investigators say a juvenile suspect contacted the woman on Instagram, posing as a buyer interested in vape cigarettes.

When the victim arrived, police say Morgan and another teen robbed her at gunpoint. As the woman tried to drive away in fear for her life, Morgan opened fire, shooting her multiple times, accoring to police documents. She was struck in the face, wrist, and stomach.

Despite her injuries, the woman managed to drive a block away before calling for help. Officers found her inside her vehicle with gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where doctors say she suffered life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say this violent robbery fits a pattern—teens luring victims to the neighborhood around First View, near Perrin Beitel, using social media as bait.

Morgan is also facing charges in a separate aggravated robbery at Macy’s in South Park Mall on July 16. Police say he tried to steal items from the store, and when a loss prevention employee tried to stop him, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the employee, then fled the scene.

In total, Morgan is now linked to at least three violent robberies—including the Desert View shooting, the Macy’s incident, and an August 5 aggravated robbery under Bexar County Sheriff’s Office investigation.

An arrest affidavits also indicates Morgan could be linked to at least two other armed robberies in the same northeast-side area, though he has not been formally charged in those cases.

He remains in custody on bonds totaling $350,000.
