Teen accused of plotting attack at Rhodes Middle School to remain at juvenile detention

As with all juvenile cases, he’s not eligible for bail.

SAN ANTONIO — Teen accused of plotting to attack students at Rhodes Middle School has been ordered to remain locked up in juvenile detention for now.

The teen appeared before Judge Cruz Shaw, who denied two motions filed by the defense team and ruled the boy will remain in custody for at least the next ten days.

This is a case that has received widespread publicity because both this teen and his mom have been accused of terror related activities but this is our first look at him since his arrest and first court appearance May 13.

The small framed teen was flanked by two attorneys. The judge gave strict instructions to conceal his face and name.

Even though his mother has been publicly identified the pair does not share a last name, so he does have a bit of protection.

With regard to motions, defense attorney Aaron Diaz asked the judge to restrict media coverage for all proceedings to protect the teen. He wanted media barred from any proceedings.

He also asked for a gag order to stop what he called leaks of confidential case information.

Judge Shaw denied both motions.

He went on to rule that even though the teen has been doing well in detention, he should remain in custody for now…although they say at some point a relative is willing to take him in if he’s on a GPS monitor.

As with all juvenile cases, he’s not eligible for bail.

He’ll be back in ten working days for his next hearing.
