Teen arrested after reported shooting, assaulting officers northwest of downtown

A 13-year-old was arrested after fleeing a reported shooting scene and assaulting two officers during his capture, police say.

SAN ANTONIO — A 13-year-old boy is in custody after police say he was involved in a reported shooting and then assaulted two officers while trying to get away Saturday evening.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Gardina Street, a few blocks from I-10 West, around 6:38 p.m. for a shooting in progress.

When they arrived, police say they spotted the suspect in an alleyway and told him to stop. Instead, investigators say the teen took off running.

Officers caught up to him a short distance away, but police say he fought back during the arrest, assaulting two uniformed officers.

The teen was taken into custody and charged with evading arrest, unlawfully carrying a weapon and two counts of assault on a peace officer.

Police did not say if anyone else was hurt in the incident.

The case remains under investigation, and officials say details could change as more information becomes available.
