Charges for the teen include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct for discharging a firearm.
SAN ANTONIO — A teen boy accused of shooting a teen girl in the shoulder made his first appearance before a judge in juvenile court Monday morning.
Court officials told Associate Judge Erik Reynolds this is familiar territory for the teen, being his fourth time appearing on charges.
Court personnel told the judge his previous charges include evading arrest, theft of a firearm and assaulting a public servant.
The latest case includes charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct for discharging a firearm.
Police said the teen tried to run from the scene of the shooting on Calle Estrella early Sunday morning, but they caught up with him nearby and recovered the weapon they believe was used in the shooting.
Police said they don’t know what led to the confrontation, but the investigation continues.
There has been no word on the condition of the young victim.
Court officials asked the judge to detain the teen.
His attorney said he might be a candidate for release on a monitor in the future, but he did not ask for the teen to be released at this time.
The teen’s mom apologized to the court for her son’s behavior.
The teen had nothing to say when the judge offered him an opportunity to speak. He will return for his next hearing on Nov. 10.
