Teen hospitalized in Galveston after suffering shark bite offshore

The teen was offshore with his father and one other person in a boat when he was reportedly bitten by a shark.

GALVESTON, Texas — A teen is in the hospital in Galveston after being bitten by a shark offshore, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The call came in a little before 4 p.m. At this point, it’s unclear what the teen was doing when he was bitten. He was on a disabled boat with two other people, including his father, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

After the bite, the teen’s father applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. When the Coast Guard crew arrived, they applied a second tourniquet.

Once back on land, the teen was taken by ambulance to UTMB, where he was alert and conscious.
