Teen runs mile in honor of East Texas deputy who died in line-of-duty crash

Raiden, a youth runner for the nonprofit Running 4 Heroes, honored Pollard by running one mile while carrying the blue line flag.

QUITMAN, Texas — A teen who runs for a nonprofit that raises awareness for first responders killed in the line of duty dedicated a one-mile run to Wood County Deputy Melissa Pollard. 

Pollard died while on duty after her Wood County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit rear-ended an 18-wheeler on April 9. She was laid to rest after her funeral at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler on April 16. 

Raiden, a youth runner for the nonprofit Running 4 Heroes, honored Pollard by running one mile while carrying the blue line flag. 

Running 4 Heroes, a nonprofit based in Florida, started in 2019 to raise funds for he families of fallen first responders. Those who participate in the organization run one mile for every first responder who dies in the line of duty, according to its website.
