Teen shot by SAPD on south side, police say

This is the twelfth shooting involving an SAPD officer in 2025. The last one occurred on August 29.

SAN ANTONIO — Someone was shot by police on the south side of San Antonio Monday morning, police say.

SAPD officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West Dickson Avenue near SW Military Drive around 9:30 a.m. for a call about a 16-year-old boy possibly hurting himself inside a home with a knife.

Chief William McManus said the officers remained outside the home as the situation was developing.

“The individual came out the door and started walking towards the officer with two knives in his hand,” said Chief McManus.

The officers continued to back up away from the teen as he advanced on them, the Chief said. That is when the teenager threw a knife at the officers. One of the officers then deployed a taser that didn’t have an effect on the teen because both contacts didn’t connect. The teen then ran towards the officers, which is when the officer fired his weapon, striking the teen.

“A diligent effort was made by the officers to deescalate the situation prior to the shooting,” said Chief McManus.

The teen was shot once in the shoulder and once in the thigh and was taken to BAMC for his injuries.

This is the twelfth shooting involving an SAPD officer in 2025. The last one occurred on August 29.

The officer involved in the shooting has six years on the police force.

This is a developing story.
