Teen who died after 3 show up to hospital with gunshot injuries identified

It’s unclear at this point how the trio were injured, but police said the car they arrived in had bullet holes.

SAN ANTONIO — A young man who died at a west-San Antonio hospital Tuesday evening after showing up with two others who said they had been shot has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner.

The teen who died has been identified as 16-year-old Messiah Martinez.

Authorities are still working to determine what happened to the trio before they arrived to the Baptist Neighborhood Hospital at Highway 90 and Cupples around 7:20 p.m. in a Lincoln Navigator. The other victims haven’t been identified aside from law enforcement estimating they were between 15 and 21 years old.

The two taken to local hospitals were shot in their upper and lower torso, the sergeant said. Martinez was reportedly hit “in the abdomen area.”

Police said none of them were cooperating with authorities, but authorities noted bullet holes and other damage on the car they arrived in.

“Could’ve been anything from a bad drug deal, road rage, ‘I’ve got a beef with you,’ stolen car—we don’t know at this point,” the sergeant said.

The two surviving victims were “both talking,” the sergeant noted. They are believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
